Möchte einen 530d kaufen - habe ein paar Fragen

  • Hi guys, first of all sorry for writing this in English, I am originally from Macedonia a small country in Europe and I am asking this here because we don't have a E60 forum and the rest of the English forums are about american petrol cars like the 530i not the one that I am looking for a 530d.

So hmm I currently have an E46 316i and I would love to upgrade it to 530D, I have a friend who bought an E60 530D 2007 in 2009 and imported it here from Germany. He is selling it for 12,000 EUR

It currently has 185,000KM on it but I dunno if they are real. I don't know this guy much, I know his friend who knows him for 2-3 years. He tells me that he enjoyed driving his car and took care of it, since he is an IT tech guy he used to add maps on that car 2 years ago and he tells me that he really does take care of it.

    It has the older engine.

But what I want to ask is:

    1. Is it worth it? Are 185,000KM too much for this car if they are real of course. I've heard it's a great engine

    2. Nothing gets serviced by the book here, so what is the best way to check KM?

    3. What are the faults for this pre-lci 2007 530D that I can check before buying?

    4. Whats the most expensive thing that can break on this car?

    5. Any other advice you can give me :)

    Regards
    Danke

  • Hi Marco,

the easiest way to check on the market Prices is by having a look into http://www.mobile.de . There You will see the Price of such a car in Germany and then callculate the additional expenses needed to Import the car into Macedonia. Depending on that You can judge if the 12000 € are worth it.

    To Your questions:

    1. As said above, hard to judge by us. 185K is not that much for the 530d, butit very much depends on the sort and scope of care that it has been enjoying. One of my E61 is a 530d from 2004, that I bought at 90K and it now has 222K on. Nothing really seroius had been Happening in Terms of repair during the years.
    2. Your only possible way is checking the last Service done at a BMW dealership by checking via VIN. From that Information You can try to estimate the "truth".
    3. Boy that is a hard question. All Information is available in the Forum, but it is in German. You can still rely on the Information available in the US Forums, just skip the engine stuff. You might ask someone speaking German to check the Forum here and go trough the varus threads.
    4. That's more a quiz question than anything else. On any car there are things that might break. The engine, the transmission or some expensive electronics. Buying a used car from a unknown source always bears some risks. In terms of that aspect it might be a good idea to buy a car in Germany from a dealer, where You would get some sort of a warranty.
    5. If You have the chance and it is not too expensive in Terms of additional expenses get a car in Germany. Just a few threads down one guy is selling a 535d E61 which is pretty loaded and has a reasonable Price. Calculate what it would cost registered in Macedonia and voila You have a nice comparison.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply I really appreciate it :)

I have a question regarding the VIN check, I've heard about it when I was buying my E46, but all I was getting was the normal factory values, like Color, Equipment etc, is it possible to see the KM on the VIN Number check?

  • Überschrift in deutsch, Rest in englisch?

  • The only way to check km is by checking the vehicle history and comparing the mileage during the last registered service and ist momentary value. But for that You need a nice guy at the local BMW dealership..
